Choose glitter card for textured sparkle, or mirror card for a smooth, reflective finish. Both can work on a birthday, wedding or first-birthday cake. The best choice is the one that keeps your wording readable and suits the cake’s colours.

We use 350gsm glitter and mirror card specially made for Edition Works cake toppers. Our low-shed glitter card uses real glitter for textured sparkle, rather than a glitter-look foil effect. Our mirror card gives a smooth, reflective finish. Check your chosen product’s material details and available colours. These are decorative card toppers, and are supplied unmounted with bamboo sticks and glue dots.

Compare the same design in two finishes

See our Winter ONEderland first-birthday topper in Gold Glitter on the left and Gold Mirror on the right. Comparing the same design on simple ivory cakes makes it easier to see each finish. Its wording is fixed and it is approximately 6 inches wide.

Colours and reflections vary with screens, lighting and the material; use this comparison as a guide rather than an exact colour match.

Match the colour to the icing and decorations

  • White or ivory icing: gold and rose gold add warmth; black gives strong contrast. Pale silver or white can blend into a light background.
  • Navy or dark blue icing: gold and silver create a clear metallic accent.
  • Pink or lilac icing: rose gold can repeat a warm party accent; a darker purple or black can make lettering stand out.
  • Rainbow cakes: repeat one colour from the decoration so the topper feels connected to the cake.

These are styling suggestions, not rules. Look at the wall or balloon arch behind the cake too: lettering needs to remain visible from the front.

What about holographic mirror?

Holographic mirror shifts in appearance with the light and viewing angle. It can suit a rainbow or playful theme, but the effect will vary between photographs. Check whether it is offered on your chosen design.

Make the finish easier to photograph

Try soft side light and take a photograph from the front before guests arrive. If mirror lettering reflects the camera or a dark patch, move the cake or camera slightly. For glitter, try a few angles to catch the texture while keeping the wording clear.
